We planted these salad greens in October 2011 in our unheated, doorless hoop house.
From March onward, we have done 5 picks of fresh organic greens for our families and volunteers.
The uneven growth is due to a flood. We have bunds to protect our beds now.

We harvested lots of chillies from the green house as well as broccolli from outside.
We had our first frost on October 13. All outside plants are destroyed except Broccolli, Salad mix and Ceylon Onions.

Acorn squash were planted as part of our 3 sisters experiment. They produced average sized squash. They will be used with Casava to make a yellow curry.
Waltham Broccoli was planted in late June and there were no activities until the nights started getting colder.
We are getting some beautiful Broccoli. We continue to harvest as they keep on producing new shoots.

Our backyard bounty is amazing this year.
We were impressed with our Green Peppers. Last year, we lost a lot of them to slugs.
For some reason, there weren’t too many slugs in the field this year.

We planted these Waltham Broccolli a bit late.
They didn’t produce any shoots until middle of August when the nights got bit colder.
Some bolted way too quickly. We will attempt to grow a fall/winter crop inside the green house.

We planted these with our Three Sisters Corn and Peas in first week of June.
We were experimenting with the Three Sisters so they didn’t get any water or compost. We still got pretty good count but next year we will definitely increase the compost and watering to get Market quality squash.
And we will use the Three sister model as well.

We planted them in early August. They were slow in growth since there wasn’t regular watering.
But thanks to the late rain fall and cold nights, this salad mix batch is thriving.
We also have radishes ready for harvesting.
